Bark Squack

Today provided a beautiful opportunity: a canceled obligation allowed me to walk towards Pier 39 before heading to my tennis fun. A gorgeous sunny morning…birds cawing, sea lions swimming playfully. A great start to what I hope will be an unexpectedly productive day.

One step at a time

Want to get back on track with morning walking, so set out today to walk Washington Square park. A car was pulling out in front of our place, so figured I should pull my car outta the SSPP garage and claim the coveted spot! Luckily enough, it worked, but I hadn’t gotten much of a walk. Decided to walk the block, as in tackle the Jones Street steps. Felt good after the first round and decided to do it again! As I was heading up the steps with my 1-2-3-hold pace, a woman passed me taking the steps a brisk two at a time. Alas, I’ll get there–eventually. What struck me was her shoes and skirt matched the most garrishly painted house on the block. Stopped to get a panoramic shot at the top since I hadn’t even looked back on the first round. Probably 20 minutes of walking. Perfect.

An apple a day

Back to walking to WW today, noticing new things in Russian Hill like window boxes, tile and brick work, and amusing store windows (Polk Street museums). Got inspired to cap off WW with a Granny Smith apple and found a beautiful one for $1.17 at REAL FOODS.  Figured I would’ve happily paid $5 for a donut 6 weeks ago, so it’s all good! Talked fall foods (like apples) at WW and celebrated being down 21.2!

Wildlife in Marin

Stopped in Tiburon to tame our wild beast, who had a meltdown at the 7th inning stretch of the Pacifics game, necessitaing our premature departure. He finally fell asleep as we drove into the town of Tiburon, allowing us to take some walks.

My first 20-minute stretch was straight uphill to see some of the views and houses, and houses and views. Caught site of an entire deer family, as well as some righteous spider webs “in media res”. The views of the Bay and Angel Island weren’t so bad either!

The second 30-minute stretch was into town along the stunning waterfront walk!

In the fog

At Weight Watchers on Saturday, I’d written down a goal of walking on Tuesday and Thursday of this week, when I didn’t have to teach.  So before going in for observations, I did a 20-minute walk along the Marina. Even though the weather was gloomy, the air felt good, and I was happy to see my goal through, if only for a short stretch.

Upon this rock

James started school today and I didn’t have to teach, so focusing on my goal of improving my health this year, I went on follow-up visits to both doctors, since I saw them both on my birthday.  Just enough time after those appointments to hit Baker Beach and let my feet get a nice exfoliation as I ventured to these crazy pocky rocks!  My body is definitely feeling the burn of walking in sand…burn, baby, burn…and take a few pounds with you!

Humming along

image.jpegHaven’t posted in a week because school started Wednesday and my walking has been catch-as-catch can around our erratic schedule. Been trying to do my “laps” at the park with James.

Today, I walked to WW in less time than I anticipated: about 30 minutes. You notice things walking that you’d never seen from the car, like a lovely hummingbird feasting on a fuscia passionflower.

After a big week with a wedding, screwed-up sleep, and the Beer Tasting, relieved to report a loss at WW of over 3 pounds, bringing the total to 12!  See the “Bravo” and 5 lb stickers.

Hope to take big walks this week on Tuesday and Thursday when I don’t teach! The Presidio will be the target on Tuesday and maybe Marina Green/Crissy Field on Thursday. Planning works!

Signs of the Times

Today’s walking destination was Weight Watchers! After a visit with Dr. Wong, I loved walking down the memory lane that is Polk Street to the Century Club. Bypassed Bob’s Donuts and instead, stopped to pick up fruit and yogurt. 8.6 pounds down! Great meeting.

Back in the Act!

It’s Friday, August 12, 2016, two years since my last post! No excuses. Life happens, but happy to say I’m back on track. Here’s a quick catch-up on the past 2 years: Dr. Mama bids farewell to ICA and hello to SHC.  And here’s a quick catch up on the past week: started WW on Saturday, Feast of the Transfiguration. Have walked (intentionally) a bit each day since then. Here are photos of the “high water marks”.
